What is Orthodontics?

Orthodontic care correct teeth misalignments, crooked teeth, headaches, TMJ syndromes, neck, shoulder, and back pain. Patients can benefit by having a healthier mouth, pleasing appearance, and a set of straight and healthy teeth that are likely to last a lifetime.

When do you require orthodontic care?

An orthodontist would be the best person to determine whether you are in need of orthodontic care. He/she would carry out a complete examination with the help of digital X-rays and decide which orthodontic appliance would best suit the individual's case. Any of the below dental conditions would confirm that you're in need of an orthodontic consultation.

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite
  • Spacing
  • Crowding

What does your consultation look like?

At Everyone's Family Dental, your typical orthodontic consultation would involve the below:

1. Initial consultation - During your first visit, the orthodontist would conduct an oral examination where necessary X-rays and photographs would be taken. The findings would lead to a diagnosis. Based on them, the orthodontist would discuss the patient's treatment options.

2. The option of appliance - By now, your orthodontist would have finalized on your course and treatment option. Dental braces are by far, the most common type of orthodontic appliance. The orthodontist would take the necessary steps to have your braces on. This may require a few extraction procedures prior to the placement of braces. Your orthodontist would discuss everything in detail during your first consultation.

3. Treatment with Dental Braces - Dental braces are fixed orthodontic appliance. The process of treatment would involve brace adjustments, tightening, and over to straightening your teeth in the course of time. Treatment generally lasts between 12 to 32 months and would solely depend on individual cases. Towards the end of your treatment, the orthodontist would remove the brackets and enable you to see the final results of the treatment.
